A trip around the British Isles and neighbouring parts of Europe.

Dover, U. K.

Our departure point.

The white cliffs of.....hey, you could write a song about that!!!

One of my first views of Dover as I walked into town.

The beach....

....and the town.
I wonder what they sell here......

Hmmmmm, this brings back memories of Hawaii (go figure).

A silhouette view of the main street.

return to top

Le Havre, France

A french city by the sea.

A row of sea-side apartment buildings.

There's a lot of churches 'round here, but this one seemed somehow....different.

Wow, this thing's huge!!! You can see it from almost anywhere in town.

....and the more personalised version :-)

Oh, this was too cool to let get by.....

return to top

Cobh, Ireland

Our first stop in Ireland.

The town with the big steeple in the background.

....and a closer view of the church that belongs to that steeple.

....and right next door:-

A quaint little row of houses.

Let's hope they get on well with their neighbours.

I figure this is very much a fishing village:-

....and I'm guessing that ship in the background is a bit bigger
than what they normally ride in 'round here.

return to top

Dublin, Ireland

The home of Guinness.

OK, I LOVE the sense of humour around here!!

Elegant John bathrooms!!!

Oh, I'm definitely staying there :-)

I have no idea what they sell here....I don't think it's telephones.

....and that's without any Guinness at all!!
and how about.....

Cyclelogical (the cycle shop).

A couple of shots of the bustling center of Ireland's biggest city.

....with Dublin Castle close by:-

Two of Dublin's most regal looking buildings:-

.....and the more modern International Financial Services Center:-

Finally.....the pub where I sat and drank Guinness - - (a man's gotts do what a man's gotta do :-)

The White Horse Inn.

return to top

Belfast, Northern Ireland

Just like coming home.

Wow, this is a nice city.

I think this is some kind of billiard hall.

A colourful pedestrian shiopping street in the heart of the city.

Apparently the front lawn of city hall is the place to relax and enjoy the sun.

A couple of the city's more interesting monuments.

I think this guy's really lost:-

The beautiful 'Dublin street'....Belfast.

(hang on....I'm confused.)

return to top

Greenock, Scotland

A touch of Scottish history.

Rows and rows of beautiful old stone cottages.

Some examples of the glorious architecture to be found in this part of Scotland.

The Customhouse building down by the waterfront.

.....and a little steam-boat out on the river

return to top

Germany

Rostock.

A nice shopping town.

The German version of the old and the new:-

Apparently it's not a nuclear power plant.....which puzzles me....
....'cos it looks just like the one in the Simpsons.

These guys have their own version of 'quirky'.

.....and these little juice-bars are all over town:-

return to top

Warnemunde

A cute fishing town on the northern coast of Germany.

The boardwalk.

The restaurants along the canal with fishing boats
parked right outside (how convenient).

A close-up of the lighthouse.

A couple of glimpses of local culture looking through between the trees and buildings.

An interesting mix -- German-style houses, right on the beach.

What a nice way to welcome people to town!!

return to top

England

Canterbury

A couple of random shots from this delightful little English town.

A local theatre.

Dover

A short walk up the hill to Dover Castle.

There it is just over the hill......oh no, that's just the church.
Here's the Castle:-

(For some strange reason, I'm reminded of Monty Python.)

Here's a quick peak inside.

....and back to the start.

Hmmmm, looks familiar :-)

return to top

Wow, that's just one small part of Europe!!!!
