The Wilds of Alaska.

Starting from:-

Seattle

The skyline as we leave....

return to top

Ketchikan

A quaint little drinking town with a fishing problem.

Creek Street, where all the 'action' used to take place....

....and 'Dolly's', the last remaining 'house of ill repute'.

Here's one way of escaping the evils of Creek st.

The more 'natural' part of the creek.

I think I can see why this fish is having trouble swimming up-stream.

The only tunnel in Alaska where they drive over, under and around.

return to top

Juneau

Alaska's State Capital.

This is where all the action takes place in South-east Alaska....(I'm told there is some).

Upmarket, downtown apartments....

A quick ride up the Mt. Roberts tramway delivers some spectacular aerial views:-

Looking down towards Mendenhall valley, the airport, and the beautiful
snow-capped mountains in the distance.

This is about as Close as I got to an Eagle.

From the hiking tracks up Mt. Roberts....mother nature really puts on a show!!

Hmmmmm, looking at the size of those little planes, I think I'll stick to hiking.

And finally, the view across to Douglas on the other side of the river:-

return to top

Tracy Arm

Time to go see some ice!!

There's some beautiful sights as we head up Tracy Arm towards Sawyer Glacier....

Getting closer....

The first glimpse -- The North Sawyer Glacier...pretty cool (literally).

....and.....the Big Event (it's hard to fit all that ice into one little photgraph)

The South Sawyer Glacier!!

and finally....some dramatic looking scenes as we re-trace our steps (no pun intended) along Tracy Arm.
return to top

Skagway

Let's take a step back in time.

You can just picture the sheriff waitin' by the tracks for the train to arrive....

...before headin' back to his homestead:-

Of course, he'd be using the principle means of transportation in this town....

No seriously, there are other ways of getting around this cute little tourist town.

Such as....

The train that pulls up right beside the docks....

....and takes you up into the mountains

and the Skagway streetcars that certainly stand out in the crowd.

A train of days gone by:-

The scenery you see as you travel round the town is pretty cool:-

A couple of cool places to hang out.

And a final farewell to Skagway's main street before heading back southwards again.

return to top

Victoria, B.C. -- Canada

What a Beautiful Garden City.

There's a lot going on around the waterfront here:-

A closer view of the Empress hotel. (I was certainly....empressed :-)

The natural beauty of Beacon Hill park....

How many different modes of transportation can you count going past the State Capitol building?

return to top

and back to:-

Seattle, WA

What a great place to spend some time.

Beautiful views of the Seattle waterfront from the back of the ship.

....and some serious 'civilisation' downtown....
What a good idea....let's finish off with a little 'retail therapy'.

Phew!!! That's a lot of photos. I think it's time for a breather.
